I've furnished bedrooms big and small – don't order your new bedroom furniture without checking out these 11 stores first

I've used my personal experience and shopping expertise to find all the best places to buy bedroom furniture – and picked my favorite pieces to show you

Shopping for new bedroom furniture is an exciting prospect, but in reality, it can also be quite overwhelming. The bedroom is where we start and end each day, so it deserves pieces that are a reflection of your personal style while also providing comfort and practicality.

As both a Style and Shopping Editor who's tackled multiple home remodels, a few tricky rental flats, and of course, my childhood bedroom makeovers – I've learned over the years that not all furniture retailers are created equal. From flimsy drawers to bed frames that look nothing like the photos, knowing the best places to buy furniture helps you to cut through the noise, shop smarter, and avoid buyer's regret.

To make the cut, these stores have to deliver more than just stylish-looking products (although that certainly helps), but quality of materials, range of choice, expert recommendations from our Sleep Editor Emilia, and customer reviews to be considered as one of the best places to buy bedroom furniture.

Trusted brands like Crate & Barrel, Anthropologie, McGee & Co., Target, and Macy's feature here, so you can be sure to find something for every budget or interior design style. So, whether you're furnishing a bedroom from scratch or just upgrading a few essentials, these are the places I genuinely recommend for finding bedroom furniture that lasts, looks great, and feels right at home.

Where to buy bedroom furniture

Bedroom furniture shopping is important, but can still be simple. Personally, I think that you need three key items: a sturdy bed frame to support the best mattress you can afford, a little nightstand to hold your overnight essentials, and a stylish dresser with sufficient space for bedroom storage.

'For me, the starting point of any bedroom scheme is always the bed – it’s the focal point and foundation of the space,' agrees Laura Hammett, founder of luxury homeware brand Laura Hammett Living.

Clare Schifano from Vispring adds, 'Headboards create the focal point in any bedroom space that can elevate the overall look of the room, providing both functionality and aesthetics. Oversized headboards remain popular, and we overwhelmingly find customers choose neutral fabric coverings that can complement changing bedroom designs and colour themes over the years,' she suggests to create a timeless bedroom.

As someone who spends their days searching for the very best furniture and home decor, I've tried to narrow down my search to the best place to buy bedroom furniture for both style and quality. Think stylish, on-trend pieces that deliver comfort and function too.

To save you from endlessly scrolling, I suggest you start your search at one of these 11 brands, but if you want to make your bedroom furniture ideas even simpler, I've broken down a simple list below of retailers by what they do best:

The best places to buy bedroom furniture

I've scoured and reviewed 11 of my favorite bedroom furniture stores to suit every style of room and size of budget. I've tried to select The Big Three: a bed frame, a nightstand, and a dresser from each store to save you searching for the essentials as well as a few 'nice to have' accent finds.

If you're working with a small bedroom or a tighter budget, I'd encourage you to keep to those three core pieces. If you have more money, time, and space to play with, you could start to shop for statement pieces that fit your needs. You might like a vanity station for morning maintenance, an end of the bed bench, or an armoire to keep your closet from overflowing.

1. Wayfair

What to buy: Furniture to suit every style

We all know and love Wayfair for finding furniture and home decor at accessible prices, and typically with a great lead time. But what I love the most about shopping Wayfair is the brands that I can find on there – from Kelly Clarkson Home to Martha Stewart, you can find plenty of celebrity-endorsed collections as well as plenty of surprisingly stylish Wayfair favorites like Joss & Main and Birch Lane.

You could buy a platform bed, a dresser, and a nightstand in complementary shades of unvarnished oak for a little less than $2,000. Or, go for a more curated and eclectic mix of upholstered, natural wood, and painted furniture for a design-led space that doesn't cost the earth. When you shop for bedroom furniture at Wayfair, you're saving money to spend on a mattress and the best pillow to help you sleep at night (which you can also pick up at Wayfair, too!). And of course, read our full breakdown of the Wayfair Sale for everything you need to know about sale dates and the best deals.

2. Magnolia

What to buy: Joanna Gaines' signature style

When you shop for bedroom furniture at Magnolia, you'll find an array of classic cuts and neutral colors to complement any bedroom color palette. Beds and headboards get their own special section, while dressers and nightstands are listed alongside benches, stools, and chaises for diverse seating options.

If you fancy yourself a bit of a Joanna Gaines, and you'd like to try your hand at furniture design, you should also check out their customizable furniture function. You get to choose the colors and fabrics that fit your vision and arrange the furniture to suit your space.

My favorite finds on Magnolia are the vintage-inspired pieces with turned wooden legs and extra pretty detailing. She truly doesn't do designing by halves.

3. Anthropologie

What to buy: Unique, trendy statement pieces

Anthropologie stocks some of the most beautiful bedroom furniture on the market for those who are seeking a statement piece. You'll find your fair share of solid wood and durable metal, but these classic materials are cut and carved into one-of-a-kind designs to celebrate the subtle variation of natural fibers.

Alternatively, the upholstered pieces are covered in daring shapes, patterns, and prints for something truly unique. Sure, their range isn't as small as some of the bigger retailers, but this is a destination for people who focus on finding the chicest, most trend-led piece on the market.

4. Lulu and Georgia

What to buy: Trend-led pieces with pizazz

For the most fashion-forward furniture shoppers, Lulu and Georgia provides endless options of bedroom furniture from more timeless pieces to totally unique shapes and silhouettes. Shop their upholstered furniture for the biggest offering of customized fabrics we've seen, with everything from performance velvets to beautiful florals, checks, and stripes.

You can also always rely on Lulu and Georgia to have some of the best collaborations with industry names like beloved designer Sarah Sherman Samuel or influencers like Aimee Song, whose recent Aimee Song Lulu and Georgia collaboration wowed us with its fashion influences and unexpected color combinations. You're not going to get cheap and cheerful at Lulu and Georgia, but you certainly will appreciate the quality of design you pay for.

5. Pottery Barn

What to buy: Timeless matching collections, storage, and vanities

At Pottery Barn, bedroom furniture is all about traditional styles with a modern twist. You'll see a lot of mixed materials and subtle color contrasts to create bespoke beds. Once you've invested in your sleep essentials, it's time to explore the rest of the site.

Pottery Barn has an entire sub-category dedicated to the best sleeper sofas and daybeds so that you can transform any old space into a guest bedroom. There are makeup vanities for morning maintenance, as well as closet solutions to clear up your clutter. Plus, at Pottery Barn, most pieces have White Glove Service, where items are delivered to your room of choice, then unpacked and fully assembled for you.

6. The Home Depot

What to buy: Modern cuts and colors

If you're prepared to look for it, you can find some seriously good stuff at The Home Depot, including matching sets. I recommend the Home Decorators Collection to find classic cuts of solid wood to suit any space, though these pieces would really sparkle in a mid-century modern bedroom.

If you've got a few minutes to spare, you could take the Home Depot Style Quiz to define your own aesthetic. I got 'coastal', and The Home Depot sent me off to search for specific materials (rattan or wicker), colors (blues and whites), and finishes (distressed wood) to get the look, quickly.

7. McGee & Co.

What to buy: Shea McGee's covetable style

The McGee & Co. style is hard to define. A mix of coastal, farmhouse, old and new, founder Shea McGee (interior designer and founder of Studio McGee – yes it's a lot of 'McGee') manages to strike the perfect balance with her designs that feel lived-in yet luxurious.

I personally love to go onto the site's Inspiration hub and filter by bedroom to find beautifully curated edits of furniture that fit my aesthetic. You can find plenty of furniture collections here if you're into a matching look, but if you want to create that layered Shea style, I recommend shopping for individual pieces. The great part is, they'll all sit in harmony together, no matter the style or color, as they share the same McGee DNA.

8. IKEA

What to buy: Creative storage solutions

The home of flat-pack furniture: it couldn't be easier to browse, buy, and assemble IKEA bedroom furniture. IKEA stocks everything from beds, dressers, and drawers to armoires and air purifiers to elevate your space. They even make their own mattresses, though I do recommend checking out our Sleep Expert's best mattress buying guide before shopping, as IKEA mattresses can be hit or miss.

If you're still scouting for ideas, take a look through the IKEA ideas gallery. You'll find minimalist and maximalist designs to suit small and large spaces, along with links to every single IKEA item featured in each photo.

9. Target

What to buy: Budget-friendly designer collaborations

We all love a Target trip out. Target is best known for being budget-friendly while still delivering on style, but that only got better when they started collaborating with some of our favorite designers here at Homes & Gardens.

Their sell-out Threshold designed w/Studio McGee and Hearth & Hand™ with Joann Gaines' Magnolia collections are ever popular among savvy shoppers for good reason. They offer the designer's signature styles at a really great price. It's worth checking them out.

10. Crate & Barrel

What to buy: Warm yet contemporary style

Crate & Barrel is a top destination for bedroom furniture that blends clean, contemporary design with warm, livable style. Think solid wood bed frames, upholstered headboards, and streamlined dressers that feel both elevated and approachable. Their collection is ideal if you’re going for a modern yet cozy aesthetic, and they do a designer collection particularly well, collaborating with big names like Jake Arnold, Athena Calderone, and Leanne Ford. Plus, with customization options and in-store or virtual design help, it’s easy to tailor your bedroom to feel uniquely yours.

I also recommend checking out Crate & Barrel Kids if you're designing kids' bedrooms.

11. Macy's

What to buy: Affordable quality and matching sets

Macy’s is a trusted destination for classic and contemporary bedroom furniture, offering a wide range of well-made pieces – from elegant upholstered beds to spacious storage – that suit both traditional and modern tastes. With frequent sales, white-glove delivery options, and well-known brands like Martha Stewart and Safavieh, Macy's is a pretty good all-rounder for finding stylish, quality furniture.

Shoppers also rate the customer service at Macy's, and of course, you can head in-store for a really good browse and to get a proper feel of the pieces you've been eyeing up online.

Bedroom furniture FAQs

What bedroom furniture is in style?

Right now, I'm loving the look and feel of nook beds. Tucked into cozy corners, a nook bed is a great way to make the most of a small space.

I'm also seeing a lot of experimental headboard trends like extended headboards that fit almost wall-to-wall and hotel-style upholstered pieces.

When is bedroom furniture on sale?

The best time to buy bedroom furniture is at the end of each season. That's when furniture stores run sales to clear old stock and make way for new pieces. Or around big holidays like Memorial Day, 4th of July, and Thanksgiving, when we of course see huge deals in the Black Friday sales.

Final thoughts

Once you've bought the best bedroom furniture, it's time to make the bed. You're going to want to find the best bed sheets to keep you cool and comfortable, and learn how to style a bed that's pretty, yet practical.

You might have made it all the way to the end of this article in window shopping mode: you know you need new bedroom furniture, but you can't justify the expense. If that sounds like you, I recommend you narrow the search to the best places to buy affordable furniture. You can still snag good stuff at the bigger stores, such as Target and Walmart.
