Johnny Galecki's bedroom perfects a cozy cabin-inspired trend that's not for minimalists – the result is so daring and distinctive

Warm, cozy, mysterious, and ever-so-slightly gothic: These are all words you might use to describe the 'cabincore' trend that's appeared in design conversations over recent years. They're also the terms you would use to categorize Johnny Galecki's bedroom.

To help create the cabin-style bedroom of his dreams, the Big Bang Theory actor enlisted the help of celebrated design duo Pierce & Ward, esteemed for their unique blend of vintage charm and modern elegance in some of the most famous celebrity homes.

In Johnny's case, they were tasked with creating a gothic-inspired sanctuary that feels welcoming yet slightly unconventional, and nowhere perfects this quite like his bedroom.

We've already spoken about Johnny Galecki's unorthodox bedroom layout, involving an open-plan bedroom and bathroom space that's not separated by doors. However, we thought his twist on the cabincore trend was worth a mention in its own right.

To master the cabin-inspired look, Johnny used three main tools: wood-paneled walls, dark olive green paint, and the perfect amount of texture (the latter making the room feel cozy instead of stark). The look is certainly not for those who love a minimalist aesthetic, but it's perfect for those looking to create a cocooning sleep space that feels uniquely yours.

'Cabin-style bedrooms are built on texture and warmth, using materials that feel inviting rather than polished,' comments Gareth Davies, the design director at Classic Interiors.

'Wood panelling is especially effective here because it instantly adds depth and softness to a space, particularly in warmer tones or heavily grained finishes. Even a single wall can bring that cocooning effect.'

Colors and textures aside, Gareth says that mastering task lighting (just as Johnny has done) is crucial to maintaining the dark yet functional impact.

'Task lighting is another key detail. Wall-mounted fixtures or discreet bedside lamps work well for this style, offering practical lighting without overwhelming the room. The goal is to avoid anything too clinical, so softer, directional light is what you're looking for here,' he says.

'Rather than being overly styled, this is a design language that feels familiar and settled. In a bedroom, that matters the most – it helps switch the mind off and makes the space feel like a genuine retreat.'
